Monastery
of St. Theodosius
The
Greek Orthodox Monastery of St. Theodosius lies to the East of Bethlehem. The
Monastery has had a History of positive Interaction with the surrounding
population. And later became one of the largest Monasteries in the area with
over 400 monks.
St. Theodosius selected the site because tradition said that the wise men had stayed in this cave on their way back home to Persia after they were warned by the angel in a dream not to return to Herod. The Local Arab name for the Monastery was Ibn Abeid, which means Son of the Humble Servant.
